Welcome to MykonosHolidays.info, the site to check out for great deals on Mykonos Island holidays. Find cheap getaways, bargain luxury and great offers on summer holidays and accommodation. Basic Intro to the island of MykonosMykonos, where Heracles is reputed to have killed the giants, is an island in the Cyclades group of Greek islands and is popular with tourists wanting a holiday of sun, sea and sand with a vibrant night-life scene. That being said it has much more to offer; there are also many museums of local history and crafts, those reflecting the long and varied history of the island from remote times and of seafaring history. There are shops and winding narrow streets to explore, monasteries and old churches to find and day trips to the islands of Delos, where Apollo and Artemis are said to have been born to Leto, and Tinos where you can find the church of The Virgin Mary (Panagia) which attracts visitors and pilgrims in their thousands. If you want to visit the more remote beaches then there are also boat trips to these. Its many glorious beaches are the strength of Mykonos ........... in particular those of Platys Gialos / Platis Gialis, Elia, Kalafatis (especially for windsurfing), Agios Stefanos and the Paradise Beaches. Enjoy the shops and golden sands by day and the bars, restaurants and parties by night. See the famous Mykonos (Chora) windmills from 'Little Venice' (Alefkandra). If you enjoy shopping then there are a multitude of shops to explore selling replicas of ancient relics, art and sculptures; fashionable clothing and accessories, jewellery, local produce and specialities. Most of the homes on Mykonos are the pretty, low, whitewashed buildings with splashes of blue paint but in Mykonos itself many of the buildings have upper floors, with wooden balconies reaching out across the narrow streets, and paintwork in many other colours alongside the traditional blue. Whilst in Mykonos town (Chora) you' could visit the Panagia Paraportiani. Much of the interior of the island is windswept and without tall trees and vegetation but the rocky landscape has a raw attraction that contrasts excitingly with the thriving towns and villages where tourists throng.
